A 200-hour yoga teacher training in KL costs RM5,600 to RM8,300 in course fees at the two schools that publish a price. Three more KL schools run teacher training but quote only on enquiry.
The fee is not the total. Registering with Yoga Alliance afterwards adds US$115 (about RM467) in year one and US$65 (about RM264) every year after. An intensive format also costs you 20 working days of leave. We call the full figure the Registered Cost: course fee, plus Yoga Alliance registration, plus renewals, plus the working days the format takes from you.
On that measure the best pick for most working adults in KL is Yogavatar at Ispirit Asia in Cheras: RM8,000 (RM5,600 if you are 16 to 21 or over 60), a weekend option that costs no leave, and a Zoom fallback if you miss a session.
How we built this list
Four criteria, in order of weight: Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS) status checked against the public register, a published or disclosed RM price, stated contact hours and format, and a course running inside the next 12 months. A school that cannot evidence current RYS status is left off the ranked list.
Yoga Alliance is a US-based private registry, not a Malaysian regulator. A school registers its curriculum as an RYS 200, and its graduates can then register as an RYT 200 by paying the application fee and annual dues. Registration lapses when dues stop, which is why a school’s own “Yoga Alliance certified” badge is not enough.
Location was confirmed for every entry. That matters here more than it should. Retreat booking sites list a 200-hour course at Morib Beach in Banting, Selangor, under Kuala Lumpur results. It is on the Selangor coast, outside the Klang Valley, it costs US$4,800 (about RM19,474) with accommodation, and it awards its own World Yoga certificate rather than a Yoga Alliance one. It is not on this list.
Disclosure: No school on this page paid for inclusion, and none supplied a free place. We will not sell placement on this list, because a ranking of schools paid for by schools is the problem this page exists to fix.

Source: course fees from each school’s own event listings, retrieved 5 November 2026 (Asia Pacific Yoga via its Liforme directory listing for the 26 June to 2 August 2026 KL intake; Yogavatar via its published 10-weekend course listing). Yoga Alliance fees from yogaalliance.org, retrieved 5 November 2026, converted at RM4.06 per US dollar (cross rate of 30 October 2026). Leave days assume a Monday to Friday job.
Per contact hour, both published courses land within RM1.50 of each other: RM40 an hour at Yogavatar and RM41.50 at Asia Pacific Yoga. The difference between them is format, not price.
Key takeaway: When a school quotes on enquiry, ask for the fee in ringgit, what it includes (manuals, anatomy modules, Yoga Alliance assistance), and whether instalments are interest-free. Then compare it against RM40 an hour.
The courses, compared
1. Yogavatar at Ispirit Asia, Cheras
Training capabilities: 200-hour Yoga Alliance accredited course (per the school), Hatha-based Yogavatar method, 10-weekend or 4-week weekday intensive, in person, live on Zoom or self-paced, 30-hour online anatomy course by David Keil included.
Yogavatar has run its 200-hour course in KL since 2015, at Ispirit Asia on Level 7 of Damai Hillpark in Bandar Damai Perdana, Cheras. The weekend format runs Saturdays and Sundays from 7am to 5pm across 10 weekends, which works out to 10 hours a day over 20 days. The intensive packs the same 200 hours into four weeks of weekdays.
It is the only KL course with three ways to attend. That matters if you travel for work: a missed Saturday can be made up online rather than forfeited. The regular fee is RM8,000, with a RM5,600 rate for applicants aged 16 to 21 or over 60, a 30% reduction.
Suits: working adults who cannot take leave, and anyone outside the Klang Valley who wants a KL school with a remote option.
2. Asia Pacific Yoga at Yoga Dynamics, Bukit Damansara
Training capabilities: 200-hour Hatha Vinyasa course, Yoga Alliance accredited (per the school), six weekends Friday to Sunday, training fee includes manuals, minimum four students to run.
Asia Pacific Yoga is a New Zealand school that first brought its 200-hour course to KL in 2025, running it at Yoga Dynamics on Lorong Setiapuspa 1 in Bukit Damansara. The 2026 intake ran from 26 June to 2 August at RM8,300, down from a RM9,000 regular price in 2025.
Six Friday-to-Sunday blocks give 18 training days, so each day carries just over 11 hours of the 200. That is the densest schedule on this list, and it costs six Fridays of leave.
Suits: people who want to finish in six weeks rather than ten. Watch: the 2027 KL intake had not been announced on 5 November 2026, and the course needs at least four sign-ups to run. Get a date in writing before paying.
3. Under The Light, Publika
Training capabilities: 200-hour Yoga Alliance registered course, four modules, weekends, four to seven hours a day, taught entirely in English, instalment plans available on enquiry.
Under The Light began in Yoyogi, Tokyo, in 2006 and opened its Publika studio at Solaris Dutamas in 2016. It is the largest teacher-training brand on this list, with a reported 10,000+ graduates across its markets.
The shorter days, four to seven hours, suit anyone who finds a 10-hour Saturday unrealistic. The trade-off is a longer calendar. Under The Light does not publish its fee and lists instalments as “contact us.”
Suits: beginners to teaching who want shorter sessions, and anyone already training at Publika.
4. Yogshakti
Training capabilities: 200-hour teacher training in Hatha yoga, modular structure, prerequisite of one year of regular practice.
Yogshakti teaches traditional Hatha and is listed by Time Out at Lorong Damai 13, off Jalan Ampang. It is the only school on this list that states a practice prerequisite for its 200-hour course, which is a useful filter: a school that turns away first-year students is protecting its classroom level.
Suits: practitioners with at least a year of steady practice who want a traditional Hatha lineage.
5. Karma Yoga School, Bangsar
Training capabilities: studio-run teacher training at its Bangsar flagship on Jalan Telawi 3, with sister studios at Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas.
Karma Yoga is one of Bangsar’s busiest studios, with 15,000+ ratings for its Bangsar studio on ClassPass. A large class base means a large pool of experienced students in each intake, which is good for peer teaching practice.
A separate track: BKS Iyengar Yogashala, Taman Desa
BKS Iyengar Yogashala at Taman Desa Business Park off Jalan Klang Lama teaches Iyengar yoga, which certifies teachers through its own lineage system rather than through Yoga Alliance. It is not ranked here because the criteria do not apply, not because it falls short of them. Iyengar certification is a multi-year route with years of prior practice expected. If precise, prop-based alignment teaching is what you want, enquire with the shala directly.
Weekend or intensive: which format costs less?
A weekend course costs 0 days of leave, a Friday-to-Sunday course costs 6, and a four-week weekday intensive costs 20. If you take unpaid leave, every RM100 a day you earn adds RM2,000 to an intensive.
The Registered Cost moves more on format than on fee. At an illustrative RM100 a day, the Yogavatar intensive totals RM10,467 in year one, while the same course on weekends totals RM8,467. Asia Pacific Yoga sits between them at RM9,367 once its six Fridays are counted.
The hidden cost of weekends is fatigue: Yogavatar’s format is 20 consecutive weekend days of 10 hours each. Ask each school what happens if you miss a weekend: a recorded make-up (Yogavatar offers self-paced sessions) costs nothing, while a resit with the next intake can cost months.
Key takeaway: Price your leave before you compare fees. A cheaper intensive can cost more than a dearer weekend course.
Is it cheaper to train in Bali or Thailand?
Quick Answer: Sometimes on the fee, rarely on the total. Thai residential courses on booking sites list at around US$2,650 (about RM10,751) with accommodation, already above KL’s published fees, before flights and three to four weeks of leave.
The overseas comparison works only if you were going to take a month off anyway. For a working adult in KL, a weekend course here keeps the leave count at zero, which no residential course can match.
What a 200-hour certificate gets you in Malaysia
It lets you register as an RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance, which many studios ask for when hiring. It is not a legal licence: no Malaysian law requires a yoga teacher to hold Yoga Alliance registration, and Yoga Alliance itself describes registration as optional.
That cuts both ways. A certificate from an unregistered school can still teach you well, and Iyengar teachers never hold an RYT at all. But if your plan is to apply to commercial studios in KL, the RYT is the credential hiring managers can check in under a minute, and it is why the Registered Cost includes renewals. Over three years, Yoga Alliance dues total US$245 (about RM994), plus continuing-education hours every three years to stay listed.
The honest case against this purchase: if you want to deepen your own practice and have no plan to teach, a 200-hour course is an expensive way to do it. RM8,000 buys a lot of KL studio classes.
How to choose: five questions to ask a school
- Can you show me your RYS 200 listing on the Yoga Alliance register? If a school hesitates, walk away. how to check a yoga school on the Yoga Alliance directory shows the two-minute check.
- What is the fee in ringgit, and what does it include? Manuals, anatomy modules and assessment fees vary by school.
- What happens if I miss a session? Online make-up, next intake, or forfeit.
- How many students are in an intake, and what is the minimum to run? Asia Pacific Yoga needs four.
- Is it 200 hours of contact time, or 200 hours including homework? Ask for the split.
Red flag: a school that calls itself “Yoga Alliance certified” but cannot give you its RYS listing. Yoga Alliance registers schools; it does not certify them.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Kuala Lumpur? Published fees run RM5,600 to RM8,300. Yogavatar charges RM8,000, or RM5,600 for ages 16 to 21 and over 60, and Asia Pacific Yoga charged RM8,300 for its 2026 intake. Under The Light, Yogshakti and Karma Yoga quote on enquiry, so ask for the ringgit figure and what it includes.
What is the Registered Cost of yoga teacher training? It is the course fee plus Yoga Alliance registration, renewals and the working days the format takes. In KL the year-one figure runs RM6,067 to RM8,767 before leave. A four-week intensive adds 20 working days, which on unpaid leave can add more than the fee difference between schools.
How much does Yoga Alliance registration cost? US$50 to apply plus US$65 in annual dues, so US$115 (about RM467) in year one and US$65 (about RM264) a year after. You also log continuing-education hours every three years. Payment goes to Yoga Alliance directly after your school confirms you finished, not to the school.
Can I do yoga teacher training in KL while working full time? Yes. Yogavatar runs 10 weekends of Saturday and Sunday sessions from 7am to 5pm, and Under The Light runs weekend modules of four to seven hours a day. Both need zero days of leave. Asia Pacific Yoga’s format needs six Fridays off.
Do I need to be advanced to join a yoga teacher training? Most 200-hour courses take committed intermediate students, not experts. Yogshakti asks for one year of regular practice, and Iyengar certification expects several years. If a school sets no prerequisite at all, ask how it handles mixed levels in teaching practice.
Is a yoga teacher training certificate required to teach yoga in Malaysia? No law requires one. Studios set their own hiring rules, and many in KL ask for an RYT 200 because it can be checked on the Yoga Alliance register in seconds. Teachers trained in lineages such as Iyengar hold their own certification instead.
