  11. Frequently asked questions
  • Every price on this page was read off the agency’s own website, not a third-party roundup. Verified tiers run from RM500 a month (Kang Xiang, on a page last modified in 2020) to RM12,000 (Mackyclyde Authority). Across firms with current rate cards the span narrows to RM2,000 to RM12,000, and the median tier is RM3,800.
  • Four of the eight publish a full tier structure. One publishes a single figure. Three publish nothing at all, including two whose prices are widely quoted elsewhere as if they did.
  • Three firms publish price against keyword count, which makes them directly comparable. At 10 tracked keywords: Mackyclyde RM2,000, Exabytes RM2,288, iMarketing RM2,400. At 30: RM4,000, RM4,488, RM4,800.
  • Across 16 AI answers to “best SEO agency in Malaysia”, B2B directories supplied 36% of all citations and Clutch alone appeared in 75% of them. AI shortlists for this query are assembled from directory listings, not agency websites.

Ask four Malaysian agencies to quote for the same site and you will get RM2,000, RM2,899, RM6,688 and “let’s discuss after the audit”. Three of those are published positions you can check right now. The fourth is the most common answer in the market.

This list is ordered by that distinction, and the ordering changed twice while I was checking it.

How we ranked this list

Firms are grouped by pricing disclosure, then ordered by how much detail sits behind the figure. Group A publishes a full tier structure. Group B publishes a single figure. Group C publishes nothing. Within Group A, a rate card stating keyword counts, content volumes or tracked AI prompts ranks above one stating price alone.

The four criteria, in weight order:

  1. Published RM pricing, and what is attached to it. A rate card with deliverable counts beats figures alone, which beats a band, which beats silence.
  2. A verifiable third-party profile. A Clutch, Sortlist, DesignRush or TechBehemoths listing a buyer can open. Treated as a yes or no rather than a review-count ranking, because Malaysian listings cluster between 4.6 and 5.0 and review volume tracks agency age more than agency quality. Where a firm publishes an hourly band and minimum project size on Clutch, those appear in its entry, converted at RM4.087 to the US dollar. Ratings and review counts are not shown for any firm here, for the reason above.
  3. Named AI search capability. GEO, AEO or AI SEO described as a specific service with a named method, tool or tracked-prompt count, not a line in a services list.
  4. A checkable Malaysian entity. A stated base, a founding year, and a company you can look up on SSM e-Search.

What disqualifies an entry: a guaranteed number-one ranking, no traceable entity, or a guarantee whose keyword list the agency selects without disclosing search volume. Note that a scoped, time-bound guarantee on a disclosed keyword set is a different thing, and two firms here publish one.

A note on sourcing. Most Malaysian agency roundups, including the ones AI engines cite most, carry prices lifted from each other. Checking all eight against their own sites changed three entries: Kang Xiang’s live page shows figures well below those circulating elsewhere, and two firms widely listed with RM price ranges publish no rate card at all. Where a price appears below, it is on the agency’s own page on 14 October 2026.

Key takeaway: if a firm will not state a starting price before a call, that is a scoping decision rather than a scam. Price it at the top of its published peer band and check whether the business case still works.

Why do AI engines recommend the agencies they recommend?

They read directories. Across 16 AI answers to this question, B2B directory domains supplied 25 of 70 citations, or 36%. Clutch appeared in 12 of the 16 answers, twice as often as the next most cited domain. A Malaysian agency absent from Clutch, Sortlist, The Manifest and DesignRush is structurally hard for an AI engine to recommend, however good its own website is.

Source typeCitationsShare of all citationsMost-cited domain
B2B directories2536%clutch.co, in 75% of answers
Malaysian agency sites2434%Zenweb, 6 citations
Malaysian publishers1319%Mysense, 5 citations
Tools and trade media811%seranking.com, 4 citations

Citation counts across 16 AI answers to the “best SEO agency in Malaysia” prompt set: ChatGPT 4 answers, Gemini 4, Perplexity 4, Claude 4, Bing Copilot 0 and therefore excluded. A domain linked several times within one answer counts once. Fifteen domains with one or more citations were counted. Source: SE Ranking AI visibility export, retrieved 14 October 2026.

Here is the mechanism. An AI engine answering a “best X” query retrieves documents, then extracts passages from them. A directory page is already shaped like the answer: a set of named firms each carrying a location, a minimum project size, an hourly band and a review count. An agency homepage is shaped like a pitch. Given a choice between a page listing twenty firms with attributes and a page arguing that one firm is excellent, retrieval favours the first, because it matches more of the query at chunk level.

The reliance is uneven. Perplexity drew 39% of its citations from directories and Claude 21%, so the same question asked on two assistants returns materially different shortlists.

Key takeaway: when an assistant hands you a shortlist, ask which sources it used. If the answer is Clutch and Sortlist, you have a directory ranking rather than an assessment.

Group A: firms publishing a full rate card

1. Mackyclyde SEO

SEO capabilities: Technical SEO covering site architecture, Core Web Vitals and indexation, a 47-point audit, local SEO and Map Pack work, intent-led content, authority building, and Generative Engine Optimisation with tracked AI prompts. Publishes CiteCheck, a browser extension for checking AI search visibility.

BootstrapRM2,00010Not stated1
StartupRM4,00030102
AuthorityRM12,000+503010

Published on mackyclyde.com, retrieved 14 October 2026. Month to month, no setup fee.

The only firm here publishing a tracked AI prompt count against a price. Keywords and content volume are the two numbers most Malaysian rate cards carry; prompts are what nobody else quantifies, and they are the unit that matters if generative visibility is the reason you are buying.

Founded in 2020 in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, by Nnabuike Precious, Founder and Lead Strategist, with Ang Zheng Yen as Co-founder and Lead Strategist. The agency states 85 or more Malaysian brands across 28 industries, names Allianz, Kaspersky, Socar, Tune Hotels, Bateriku and Trevo among them, and lists hotels, healthcare and education as specialist verticals. TechBehemoths named it Best SEO Agency in Malaysia for 2025, and the agency carries open profiles on Clutch, DesignRush and TechBehemoths. Its published Clutch rate is USD25 to USD49 an hour, roughly RM102 to RM200, against a USD1,000 minimum project size, about RM4,087. That hourly band is the lowest of the three firms here publishing one, and the month-to-month terms with no setup fee are the loosest commitment on this page.

The trade-off worth naming: Authority works out at RM240 per tracked keyword, the highest per-keyword figure on this page. Exabytes covers 50 keywords for RM6,688, RM5,312 less. The gap buys 10 monthly content pieces against 4, 30 tracked prompts and paid PR, but a buyer who simply wants 50 keywords tracked is paying for scope they did not ask for. At the two lower tiers the position reverses: Bootstrap and Startup are the cheapest published options at 10 and 30 keywords respectively.

2. Exabytes

SEO capabilities: AI SEO packages at three tiers with keyword counts and article volumes attached, plus web hosting, domains, cloud services and website security.

RM2,288 a month for 10 keywords and 1 article, RM4,488 for 30 keywords and 2 articles, RM6,688 for 50 keywords and 4 articles. The marginal cost of every extra keyword is exactly RM110 at both step-ups, which tells you the pricing runs on a per-keyword model rather than on scope.

Two published terms matter more than the headline figure. Exabytes offers a page-one guarantee within 12 months on at least half of each tier’s keyword set: 5 of 10, 15 of 30, 25 of 50. That is a scoped, falsifiable commitment rather than a number-one promise, and its value turns entirely on who picks the keywords. Ask for the list and the search volumes before signing. Second, the minimum term is six months, after which the service renews annually and is billed a year in advance, with cancellations stated as non-refundable. At the Pro tier that is RM58,164.48 payable up front.

Exabytes is a hosting company founded in 2001 selling SEO alongside infrastructure, not a specialist search agency. For a business already hosting with them and wanting a defined keyword set tracked, reasonable. For a contested vertical needing original content at volume, the 4-article ceiling is the constraint.

3. iMarketing MY

SEO capabilities: AEO and GEO, technical SEO for AI search, content optimisation, authority building, link strategy and schema deployment.

RM2,400 Essential (10 keywords, up to 6 content pieces), RM3,600 Advanced (20 keywords, up to 12), RM4,800 Premium (30 keywords, up to 18). Also publishes annual backlink volumes of up to 240, 300 and 360, and an optimisation cycle that is quarterly on the lower two tiers and monthly on Premium.

This is the most content-heavy rate card in the set by a wide margin. At 30 keywords it costs RM800 more than the cheapest matched option and includes up to 16 more content pieces a month, which works out at RM266.67 per piece against roughly RM2,000 elsewhere. The caveat sits in the words “up to”: that is a ceiling, not a commitment, and the floor is the question to ask. Operated by Acme Commerce Sdn Bhd, established 1999, offering SEO since 2018, based at Sunway Velocity in Kuala Lumpur.

4. Kang Xiang (KX & Partners)

SEO capabilities: SEO, web design and development, e-commerce builds, website maintenance, Google Ads and Facebook retargeting.

The cheapest published figures in this comparison: RM500 a month for 10 keywords, RM1,000 for 20. Founded July 2012, based in Puchong.

Treat those figures carefully. The page carrying them was last modified on 21 May 2020 and published in 2017, and it states no content volume, contract length or setup fee. Other roundups list Kang Xiang at RM880, RM1,480 and RM2,080, which do not appear on the live page. A six-year-old price page is itself information: confirm the current rate before budgeting against it. Kang Xiang’s SEO pages also do not mention AI search, GEO or AEO, and the firm’s centre of gravity is web development.

Group B: firms publishing a single figure

5. VeecoTech

SEO capabilities: RankRise SEO including answer engine optimisation, technical SEO, content, link building, plus web and software development.

One published package at RM2,899 a month, covering 2 conversion-focused content pieces and 3 brand mentions on sites at DR30 and above with 5,000 or more monthly traffic. No keyword count is attached, which is the one number that would make it comparable to the three firms above. Founded 2011, with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore. A single published figure is less useful than a tier structure and considerably more useful than nothing.

Group C: firms publishing no pricing

These three are widely quoted elsewhere with RM figures. None of those figures appears on their own sites.

6. Locus-T

SEO capabilities: SEO, SEM and PPC, paid social, Google Business Profile optimisation, web design and maintenance.

No published rate card. Its 2026 pricing page quotes a RM1,700 to RM4,980 market range drawn from 10 or more local agencies, which is commentary rather than its own price. What it does publish is a guarantee: 30% of keywords ranked in the top 10, or a refund. That is the only refund-backed commitment on this page, and the same keyword-selection question applies.

Founded in 2000 in Petaling Jaya, making it the longest-running firm here by eight years, stating service to more than 7,000 SMEs and MNCs. Its Clutch profile publishes USD100 to USD149 an hour, roughly RM409 to RM609, against a USD1,000 minimum project size. Its pages do not describe AI search, GEO or AEO work, so if generative visibility is why you are hiring, start elsewhere.

7. MediaPlus Digital

SEO capabilities: GEO and AI SEO, citation audits, entity optimisation, AEO content, structured data, digital PR and traditional SEO.

No published rate card. Its blog carries a tiered market table and a 30-keyword range of RM2,300 to RM4,500 attributed to “many agencies”, and states that MediaPlus scopes and quotes each business individually. The only firm-specific figure is a free audit it values at RM300. Headquartered in Miri, Sarawak, with offices listed in Singapore, Australia, China and Hong Kong. Its material names language count as a scope driver, which signals a firm that has actually priced multilingual Malaysian work.

8. Primal

SEO capabilities: AI search through its ElevateSEO and INSTINCT tools, SEO, link building, content, paid advertising across Google and social platforms, and conversion rate optimisation.

No published rate card and no stated minimum budget. Its SEO page carries a calculator using an RM5,000 monthly budget, explicitly labelled as an example rather than a Primal price. Based at KL Eco City, Bangsar, with offices in Bangkok and Singapore. Its Clutch profile publishes USD100 to USD149 an hour, roughly RM409 to RM609, against a USD1,000 minimum project size. Primal is not competing for the same buyer as the rest of this list, and reading an absent rate card as evasion misreads the segment it sells to.

Before you contact any of them: take the firms whose published band matches your budget and send them all the same written questions. Identical questions are the only way to see which quote is padded. Our twelve-question vetting process for Malaysian SEO agencies covers the free SSM and service tax lookups to run before anyone replies, and the account ownership terms to fix before signing.

What does an SEO agency cost in Malaysia?

Among firms with current published rate cards, tiers run RM2,000 to RM12,000 a month and the median is RM3,800, which is RM4,104 payable with 8% service tax. Eight of the ten current tiers sit between RM2,000 and RM5,000. Ten of the twelve verified tiers cost less, all-in, than hiring one SEO executive.

Mackyclyde Authority, 50 keywordsRM12,000RM12,960.00RM155,520

All twelve verified published tiers across the five firms that publish any price, read from each agency’s own website on 14 October 2026. The two Kang Xiang figures sit on a page last modified 21 May 2020. Service tax calculated at the 8% standard rate in force since 1 March 2024. These are published positions, not quotes.

Staffing one SEO executive internally costs about RM5,548 a month once employer EPF, SOCSO, EIS, the HRD Corp levy and one tool licence are counted, which our full buyer’s guide to hiring an SEO agency in Malaysia works through line by line. Ten of the twelve tiers above cost less than that, all-in.

Key takeaway: ask every shortlisted firm whether its figure includes service tax before comparing two numbers. On a RM4,800 retainer the difference is RM4,608 across a year.

Which is cheapest at the same keyword count?

Three firms publish price against keyword count, which makes them the only directly comparable offers in the Malaysian market. At 10 tracked keywords Mackyclyde Bootstrap is cheapest at RM2,000. At 30, Mackyclyde Startup is cheapest at RM4,000. At 50, Exabytes Ultra is cheapest at RM6,688, RM5,312 below the alternative.

50Mackyclyde AuthorityRM12,000RM240.0010RM1,200.00

Derived from the published tiers above. Per-keyword and per-content figures are arithmetic on each firm’s own stated counts, not agency claims. iMarketing’s content volumes are published as “up to” ceilings.

The ranking inverts depending on which unit you buy. On keywords, Mackyclyde is cheapest at 10 and 30. On content, iMarketing is cheapest at every count by a factor of five or more, and it is the only firm publishing annual backlink volumes. If your bottleneck is publishing capacity rather than tracking, the cheapest per-keyword option is the wrong one.

Key takeaway: decide whether you are buying keyword coverage or publishing capacity before you compare quotes. The two produce opposite answers from the same table.

Why do the agencies that publish prices get cited more?

AI engines extract at passage level, so a page containing “RM2,288 a month for 10 keywords” can be lifted whole and attributed. A page saying “contact us for a tailored quote” contains nothing extractable. Among the Malaysian agency domains in the citation export above, the most-cited ones publish figures.

This is the practical consequence of retrieval-augmented generation. The engine retrieves candidate chunks, then selects those answering the query completely without surrounding context. A rate card is a self-contained answer. A value proposition is not. Published research on generative engine optimisation consistently finds that statistics and specific figures rank among the content features generative engines preferentially surface, and this citation export is one small local confirmation.

The same mechanism explains the directory dominance. A Clutch listing is a dense block of attributes per firm, the most extractable shape a page can take for a comparison query.

Key takeaway: an agency wanting AI assistants to recommend it gains more from publishing a rate card than from any amount of homepage copy, and more again from a directory profile with real review volume.

When should you not hire any of these firms?

Quick Answer: Skip SEO if nobody searches for what you sell, if you cannot fund twelve months, or if approvals inside your business take weeks. For Malaysian fashion, beauty, F&B and event-driven retail, Meta and TikTok ads usually pay back faster, and a well-maintained Google Business Profile plus a WhatsApp catalogue often beats a RM2,000 retainer outright.

The budget stops at six months. At the RM3,800 median that is RM24,624 including tax, and it usually ends just before compounding starts. Spend it on ads and return when a full year is fundable.

Your category has no query volume. Worth checking against this page’s own target term: “best seo agency in malaysia” returns zero monthly searches in SE Ranking’s Malaysian database, while “seo company malaysia” returns 480 and “best seo company in malaysia” returns 210. Guarantees get written against terms like the first one. Google’s documentation states plainly that no one can guarantee a number one ranking, and that you remain responsible for the actions of any company you hire.

You need one specific thing fixed. A migration, a manual action, a Core Web Vitals failure. That is a project rather than a retainer, and the agencies selling standalone SEO audits in Malaysia price it at RM1,500 to RM5,000 as a defined deliverable. If you want an individual rather than a firm, our ranked list of SEO consultants in Malaysia and the roundup of SEO specialists working in Malaysia cover the advisory route.

Key takeaway: check search volume for your actual product category before shortlisting anyone. A guarantee on a zero-volume term is easy to meet and worth nothing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the best SEO agency in Malaysia charge? There is no single best. Among firms publishing current rate cards, tiers run RM2,000 to RM12,000 a month and the median is RM3,800, which becomes RM4,104 payable with 8% service tax. One older published page lists RM500, but it was last modified in 2020, so confirm before budgeting against it.

Do Malaysian SEO agencies publish their prices? Half do properly. Four of the eight firms here publish a full tier structure and one publishes a single figure. Three publish nothing, including two routinely listed elsewhere with RM ranges that appear nowhere on their own sites. Those circulated figures are usually market commentary from the agency’s blog, misread as its rate card.

Which Malaysian SEO package is cheapest per keyword? At 10 tracked keywords, Mackyclyde Bootstrap at RM200 per keyword. At 30, Mackyclyde Startup at RM133.33. At 50, Exabytes Ultra at RM133.76 against RM240 for the alternative. Per content piece the order reverses completely: iMarketing ranges from RM266.67 to RM400, roughly a fifth of its competitors.

Why does ChatGPT recommend different agencies than Gemini? Because they lean on different sources. In a 16-answer sample, Perplexity took 39% of its citations from B2B directories and Claude took 21%. Clutch appeared in 12 of 16 answers overall. Different retrieval mixes produce different shortlists from the same question, so treat any single assistant’s list as one source rather than a consensus.

Should I trust an SEO ranking guarantee in Malaysia? Only if you control the keyword list. Two firms here publish scoped guarantees: Exabytes promises page one within 12 months on half of each tier’s keyword set, and Locus-T promises 30% in the top 10 or a refund. Neither states who selects the keywords, which is the variable that decides whether the promise means anything.

Does an SEO agency have to charge me 8% SST? Only if registered. The standard service tax rate has been 8% since 1 March 2024, with registration required above RM500,000 in annual taxable turnover, so smaller agencies are often legitimately outside it. Verify any SST number free on the Royal Malaysian Customs registration status inquiry before paying a tax line.
